We are thrilled to partner with Nikki Frumkin of Drawn to High Places for a special winter hike and paint collaboration event. The Cascade Mountain Adventures team will lead a short beginner friendly snowshoe to a beautiful viewpoint. Once there, you will settle into an open-air winter watercolor painting session led by Nikki Frumkin of Drawn to High Places.

Nikki is tremendously talented and has a gift for teaching and encouraging others. You will learn new techniques with plenty of time to practice and review your work. Expect to spend approximately two hours painting before returning to the trailhead with your new masterpiece.

About Nikki:

Meet Nikki Frumkin, an artist and alpinist in Seattle, Washington. Her work is inspired by time spent hiking, climbing, and mountaineering in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Drawn to rugged, remote and wild places, her paper and watercolors go on all of her human-powered adventures with her. Nikki often paints from summits, ridges or alpine lakes. She believes there is magic in painting in these wild places, in capturing the light, energy, and movement of a place. Nikki’s work combines pattern, vibrant color, and energetic lines in an effort to capture and share the feeling of being in the mountains. The feeling that drives us to keep seeking out experiences in the mountains. Nikki’s paintings have been exhibited in shows across the country. She also creates art and design work within the climbing and outdoor industry.

This is a supportive beginner experience led at a recreational pace.

Itinerary

You will meet at the trailhead, get to know your group, and prepare to hit the trail. Your leader will review the plan for the day, a map of the area, expected destination(s), winter trail conditions, and essentials of winter hiking preparedness.

While on trail, your group will review winter travel safety tips, layer management, self-care strategies, risk assessment, and Leave No Trace wilderness ethics. Your hike will be led at a recreational pace with plenty of opportunities for pictures. Your group will then settle into our selected outdoor location for a winter watercolor skills session with Drawn to High Places.

Nikki Frumkin of Drawn to High Places will lead your small group winter watercolor session. She will share watercolor painting basics, provide an overview of essential tools and techniques, and her tried-and-true tips for plein air painting. She will also provide you with key strategies to make the most of wintertime environmental challenges. (this just adds to the fun!)

Expect to enjoy a total of five-to-six hours outdoors. Your group will spend approximately one hour on trail, with plenty of breaks along the way, before settling into our destination. You will then spend approximately two hours painting before returning to the trailhead with your new masterpiece. Please come prepared with extra layers, gloves, and warm boots to allow for an extended session outdoors.
